Hey Girlfriends! It’s Kris again!!
After my last blog post (Why I Started My Girlfriend’s Quilt Shoppe & What I’ve Learned From It) I’ve gotten some questions about the moment that I knew I really wanted to open the quilt shop. The moment my day dream became a reality seems really random, but I will never forget it. It is the moment everything changed!
Whoever has had a spouse travel regularly for work knows how hard it can be to be apart for so long. My husband and partner in crime, Mike, was gone constantly with his work. I will always be grateful for the sacrifices he made for us early on! I know it could not have been easy leaving his young family to provide!
I had retired from being a teacher at the time, but still longed for a creative outlet. Along with practically being a single parent to four busy bodied young children, it didn’t leave much alone time! Late one night, I once again found myself toying with the idea of opening the quilt shop as a place for women to gather and create. Mike was half way across the world on business. As I lay in bed, I came across an ebook called “How to Start Your Own Quilt Shop”. Jokingly, I downloaded it and sent it to Mike. It was in the wee hours of the morning where he was, and he was supposed to be sleeping, so I was surprised to get a reply. But what the reply said made my heart jump into my throat! He said, “Let’s talk about this!” WHAT?!?!
The knowledge that Mike believed in and trusted me to do something so big inspired me more than anything else ever had! Since then the quilt shop has given us the kind of family life we always dreamed of! Although it has taken all that we have, we wouldn’t change a thing!
