Hey Girlfriend’s!  Have you heard!  I am starting to train for a marathon!  I decided yesterday!  I have always wanted to complete a race, not because I like to run, but because I never thought it was possible.  I have wanted to be good at sports but I have a problem.  My legs are the shortest part of my body.

Let me share an experience I had.  I was six.  I lived in a  small town and my parents signed me up for t-ball.  I was so excited.  I stepped up to the plate.  I picked up my bat.  I hit the ball….and I ran.  I ran for all I was worth.  I was so proud.  I ran like my hair was on fire.  I made it to first base….”OUT!”  I looked in the stands. I was so disappointed and looked to my parents for sympathy.  Boy, was I surprised to see my parents rolling on the bleachers laughing.  Those were the days when not every kid made the team or got a trophy.  “OUT” not only meant I didn’t get to the base, but I was off the team.  My short legs had failed me.  My parents later described the incident as watching the Flintstones drive a car.  My legs were moving 100 miles an hour but I was going nowhere.

Well, that ended my running career, until yesterday!  I signed up.  I printed the sign up sheet.  I mourned for a few minutes that due to my employment I cannot earn the T-shirt (because I am pretty sure that marathon runners run for the t-shirt.)  I know this because 15 years ago a friend gave me a 5K tee (because he had an extra one from a fundraiser) and to this day I wear that ratty shirt with pride. (Nope, I did not participate in the race but I will never tell.)  Then I started listing my UFO’s, Unfinished Objects!  Then I printed another sheet….and kept listing.  Then I decided I would stick to one marathon.

Well, I sat down and figured it out.  I have 6 quilts to bind!  That is 6 Sappy, Rom Com, Pride and Prejudice-ish, shows that I can totally justify, because I am running a marathon, right?  I can literally dig out the stash and finish 3 projects a week and I can officially list completed a marathon on my personal Instagram and Facebook pages.  I mean, right now, I have 6 projects almost done.  Oh hey!  for those of you that hate to bind and need a refresher, watch this tutorial from Kris. People think it’s crazy when Kris says she loves to bind quilts… but when you see these great binding tips, they’ll say you’re crazy too!

This is the best kind of marathon EVER!

Ready, Set, Go and remember my new favorite saying…..”I never run with scissors…..Those last two words were unnecessary.”

XOXO,

Allison
